Brothers... Sisters... How the fuck are you?

So... again, it's been a long time coming, this 'Diary' entry and the next Skull Club but... I guess you know how it is, right? If it's not one thing, it's another. The treadmill that is life stops for no-one but, I have to ask myself, if those cumbersome, snaffling pigs that turn the wheels didn't push and pull so hard, would we still have our own air to breath? Mmm...

Anyway, what gives Skull Fiends? What goes on out there in the big wide world? You just have to appreciate that... Isolation and self-preservation render some of us 'blinkered'. Not that we're complaining, for what little we do see offers no sanctity at all but... just as there's another world out there... There's another in here too. So...

As a direct reaction to the grey, the theft of what's 'ours', the suffocation of any kind of counter culture and free-thinkers, the watered down shit that's shovelled into the gaping traps of those who know no better, we bring you...

So... Business as usual? Well... Not really. See, The Skull Club started out as 'The' alternative and, even though we know that we still do stand alone in these parts and have no doubt that our nights are a complete departure from anything else going on, we feel that with the last few nights that we've organised we've... compromised to a degree, met the crowd half way and veered off the path we set out to tread. And now, we personally feel that… We need to get 'Out There' once again.

The first step to seeing our task through was to try to find a band that we knew were about anything but compromise. And that was Litmus.

Infact, if we're honest, they found us. See, I stumbled across this band quite a while ago supporting the great Julian Cope at Wolverhampton and, within minutes of their opening number, I knew that they were the ultimate band for The Skull Club. A contact address was found, an email sent, then another and… nothing. I guess I figured that we were out of our depth, that they just weren't interested and we gave up. And then...

"Hi Kid Lightning. How do Litmus get to play The Skull Club?" Right on!

There was a little to-ing and frow-ing but, literally days later, we had our band and a rudder to steer this ship in the direction we wanted to travel. Upwards and onwards Motherfuckers!

Obviously there will be some of you who have no idea of the importance of this coup to our cause but, let me tell you, this band will really sort out the boys from the men (so-to-speak) and that's exactly what we want. This is Space Rock of the highest order, the ideal soundtrack to any self disrespecting Freak's night out, the straw that will break the Pig's back. See, it's time to re-address our manifesto and that line reads: You either are... or you ain't. Get me? No? Well, on Friday 27th July 2007, when Litmus take that stage, you soon will.

Now, because of the might of our headlining band, we were gonna leave it at that but, what the fuck?

Remember The Mobsters? Of course you do, they're family and, with that in mind, we couldn't resist inviting them to the party too. Confused? Well, there's no need. Vicious Lips are the re-vamped, bastard child of those two Motherfuckers and, for a fourth time, they'll be shaking their stuff (and yours too) at The Skull Club.

What more can I say? I don't want to go on about it too much, I don't want to give the game away but, one thing I will say... Expect nothing less that a full on, mind-spinning, psychedelic five hours in the gut of the universe.

And other...?

Roky Erickson at the Royal Festival Hall: A dream come true.

A Skull outing to see Tamworth’s favourite Motherfucker Julian Cope at The Glee Club in Birmingham: Outstandingly righteous and unbelievable hilarious at the same time (Not to mention our near brush with the venue security).

The joint D. Brainstorm/KNIVES birthday hoo-ha: One of the best.

History lessons and drinking sessions with (Sir) Bob Catley: A local legend and a diamond geezer.

The decline of ambition and/or excitement in and around the Tamworth music scene: What the fuck?

A brush with The Dark Side: Nearly.

A Tequila addiction: On-going.

And...

A big thanks to everyone who has contributed, accosted me in the street, enquired about our deal and pulled together to make The Skull Club what it is today.

Amongst those that deserve it are: D. Brainstorm, F. Fatale, Porsche KNIVES, The Combat Rocker, Dave Malys, The Gallix Ballix, Bob Catley, Jimmy Indigo, FiveByFive, Dave Tomlinson, JimOfTheBurst, Peter Hill, Migawong, Dick McNasty, Rocker Dave, Andy Roe, Doles, Chris Lynch, Mark Wallis, Steve Wileman, Ian Woollard, the Mr Derry guys (and girl), Tek! No Notice and, my 'old friend', Luke Currah... Bless you all.

So, keep on waving that Freak flag Brothers and Sisters and remember... Always...

Keep Your Dreams.

All our/my love...
