Y'know, when we came up with the idea of this website it was just gonna be another way to advertise The Skull Club nights and maybe attempt to turn some of you Skull Heads on to something you may not encounter otherwise. I guess it's gone a little beyond our original intention. While the actual 'events' are a long time comin', the scene in and around The Skull Club is alive and well. I'll be the first to admit that things have been a little slow happening over the last few months (and maybe a few more months on top of that) and also the first to thank everyone that have kept things alive by inquiring and buzzing for the next night that we put on, all of the cats behind the scenes that throw ideas at us and demand action and, most of all, the folks that keep on posting on the forum. It's a real buzz for us to know that you guys actually 'stay tuned!'...
Which kind of leads me to the diary page: So, what about it? Once again, it was meant for tasteless Skull Club promotion and blah, blah, blah and it's just so happened that it's... strayed. I guess that we could talk about Skull activity but... ah, there's plenty of time for that. Believe me, I always have the best intentions but... Oh shit. I’m easily distracted I suppose?
Let's talk about surprises! Like finding a copy of Searching For The Young Soul Rebels for £2 in The V Shop, or early hours cheese and biscuits with Pete Shelley of Buzzcocks, or a punch around the head from your Nan (it actually happened!). Or how about a text message from a long and (feared) lost 'dude' from way back when? Well, guess what?
A missed first attempt at contact and, seven days later, a message received. Not only that but, a meeting and... What a guy! Proud? You bet. Over the fucking moon! You don’t set eyes on someone who was once a huge part of your life for close to four years, not even a word, then all of a sudden you meet and it's like you've never been away.
So we hang out and talk and, a little later, go crazy at the Wolverhampton date of Anthrax's 'classic line-up reunited' tour. Then we meet up again two days later, hang out, do lunch, swap sounds and… gone. No sooner do you 're-unite' then it's time to bid farewell once again (a new life beckons over seas). Now, you may not get the real picture from my brief itinerary of events but I’m sure all of you can appreciate the fantastic-ness that is 'history'. Or maybe even the need to say 'your piece/peace'. Know what I mean?
For me, getting the chance to talk to/hang out with this cat again was a massive deal and I feel like a huge weight has been lifted from my shoulders by doing so. So huge infact that I've been driven to insomnia and loud Deep Purple as some kind of ceremonial la-de-da of all things righteous. A one man party? Easy.
Y'know, I can safely say that time stops for no man. Things happen, things change and before you know it there's five years gone by and a whole part of your life is little more than a memory. So, if you got something good, hold on to it! If you get a chance to put a wrong right, do it! If there is an opening to make amends, take it! If you find an opportunity to tell someone that you love them, love it!!! I don't wanna come across all Grace Slick but... Love? Alright!!!
So that's it. A Message Of Love! There will be more news on activity (some kind of merchandise deal, the radio, the film and the next Skull Club (July????) real soon but, until then...
Hang tight brothers and sisters and stay cool.
