Can you believe it, theskullclub.com, one week old? It almost brings a tear to one's eye, eh? And it only seems like yesterday...

Do any of you guys remember the first night we put on at the Tamworth Assembly Rooms? Friday 30th July 2004? It pretty much happened by accident, y'know: A band night, a yearning for more than what was on offer, a lot of wine and a little bravado and we'd talked our way into it. Then we panicked. Now I won't bore you people with the details, I'll save that for the book but...

The room looked fantastic: Lights, projections, psychedelic movie clips, blacked out walls, illuminated tubes hanging down from the ceiling, a stage built at the back of the room for the DJ's, oil wheels turning and incense burning. We had a fantastic rock and roll band coming from the city to lend a hand and play for us called, The Mobsters. We'd spent weeks spreading the word, handing out flyers, putting up posters and doing our best to create a buzz. Meetings were held, ideas were tossed about and heads were rattled. We had a kick ass party planned for sure but... What if nobody turned up? What if the whole night fell flat on its face and left us all looking slightly foolish for even thinking that this might be what you people actually wanted. As Van Morrison said: It's too late to stop now...

When the manager of the Assembly Rooms came up to us an hour and a half after the doors had opened and told us that we were 30 people away from selling out, we couldn't have been happier. And it wasn't just a case of tickets sold either; the whole place was going crazy! Have you ever seen a room full of lunatics dancing to the psyched-out sounds of The Seeds? Well, let me tell you, it's a buzz.

That first night confirmed a lot of things to me: It told me that it can be done. It told me that there is a demand for nights like The Skull Club. And it told me that the freaks are alive and well and ready to party! Right on!!!

Y'know, thinking about this diary entry, a week after this website went online, conjures up the same kind of feelings that I had in the aftermath of that very first night. It's difficult to try and explain, other than to say that... Thank you. Thank you for showing up and getting crazy at The Skull Club nights. Thank you for providing us with five sold out nights of excessive, rocked out, psychedelic abandon. Thank you for stopping us in the street and showing us your support and enthusiasm for what we do. And thank you for logging on, using the forum and helping to get the next phase of The Skull Club (this website) off the ground. Thank you.

Hopefully theskullclub.com will eventually become more than just a website. We want it to be educational as well as entertaining. We want to provide a constant plethora of delights for you Skull Heads. We want to create a scene where people talk, find out, engage, celebrate and make things happen. We want The Skull Club!!!

So keep on coming back to see if there's anything new that's going down! Keep on talking on the forum and use the space to say what to want to say! Share your news and your views! Advertise your wears and ideas! And spread the word!!! Y'know, if all of you Skull Heads told five likeminded souls, sent them a link, told them to log on and check it out, we could really begin to have some fun, eh?

Right, that's all for now. As I said, stay tuned in (The Skull Club Radio is on its way and the merchandise is being worked on as we speak) and stay in touch.

Take care brothers and sisters. And remember... Let your freak flag fly!!!
